Spain: Ibiza

I don’t know where to start with this post. Usually I would construct a blog post in a chronological style, breaking down the week by day and documenting them as they went, but it’s hard to do that when you’re trying to write about a week that was kind of a blur, that went by so quickly that it seemed like a dream.

My friends and I are known to partake in the odd social gathering and occasionally listen to silly repetitive music which resonates with our brain lobes at a rate of around 150 beats per minute, and this being a favourite past time of mine Ibiza has always been somewhat of a Holy Grail. A beautiful island with like minded people, solid lineups, out-of-this-world clubs and a first-world economy that feeds off people coming to party? It’s not for everyone, sure, but I personally looked forward to visiting the White Isle for years…

…especially when your itinerary looks like that (oh, and add Paul Van Dyk, Aly & Fila, Ferry Corsten and Fat Boy Slim on Thursday).

This isn’t going to be a big post, and that’s a good thing. This was one time in the week where there was so much going on and so much fun was being had that I didn’t really pull out my phone all that much to take photos. Probably a good thing in a lot of cases, too.

I went to Ibiza with Xstatic, an English organisation that organised all the gigs and accommodation for us, which resulted in a group of like minded GC’s that are all into the same music. If you’re going to party, you may as well go to a party that tickles your fancy, right?

Included in everything was entry into Captured Festival, a party that’s held in a Zoo. There was a huge lineup on that night and I got to tick off John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney from the Trance bucket list. Xstatic held its own stage there too which did not fail to deliver.

I have so few photos that I’m looking through the schedule posted above to jog my memory about what each day entailed, but one day I will not forget in a hurry is the day that my mate Ben and I paid an exorbitant price to play golf at Ibiza’s only golf course. Now, I’m probably one of the worst golfers to ever hit a course but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it.

It turns out, that contrary to our assumptions, the course on Ibiza is not a relaxed affair, and our gaming style was not appreciated by the other patrons of the course. Something about driving the wrong way, popping back to the club house for beers all too often and not wearing shoes? Not sure.

Pro Tip: When you’re still a bit bent from the night before and concurrently you’ve sent all your balls into the bushes and / or drink by the 6th hole, replenish your stock from the ball-dispenser / water hazard on the 7th.

One of the best days of the week was the Trance Classics gig at a cool little joint on the beach. That night some of us also headed along to Amnesia, a world-famous super club and one of the island’s best, to see Paul Van Dyk, Aly & Fila, Ferry Corsten and Fat Boy Slim.

Photos thanks to Helen (haven’t asked but thanks anyway :D).

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I was really looking forward to the boat party, though. Due to weather it was pushed out to the end of the week, which wasn’t a bad thing because it was a great finale. A bunch of GC’s, a boat, bangin’ tunes and a rad sunset to boot. Couldn’t ask for more.

There was so much more that went on in that week than I could ever hope to document on here, and although that’s partly due to having too much fun to take photos, not everything needs to be, or should be, on the internet. That was a week I will never forget. I met so many new friends; there’s something special about mates you make that have the same taste in music as you do, I think.

We left on Saturday afternoon to head to Munich for Oktoberfest (top idea), but if there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that I’ll be back. That week was the best blur of my life.
