Pilot
The first word which popped in to my head when I had to name this post was, as you will read, ‘Pilot.’ This word both represents the first post on this website but also the job occupation of the person who will be responsible for getting me out of the country and onward to commence my journey.
A little bit about myself, then, for anyone reading this who isn’t familiar. I’m a Kiwi with European heritage. I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and have lived here all my life.
‘The Big OE’ (overseas experience, for those outside of NZ) is something that most Kiwis aspire to embark on; travelling the world isn’t exactly an uncommon thing to want to do, anywhere on the planet, but there’s something about growing up in New Zealand, so far away from everywhere else that gives us an extra hunger for wanting to traverse the earth. In my experience, the contrasts between New Zealand and the rest of the world are huge, to say the least, and I know I’ve only scraped the surface of exposure.
With that said, I’ve got a leaving date locked in at the end of the year and only a very rough plan around seeing as much of the world as I can. I’ll endeavor to record my preparation steps and eventually my experiences, as well as some advice and local tips on places that I go to.
Thanks for reading!
